The Honorable Terrence A. Duffy, Executive Chairman, CME Group, received the National Scopus Award from AFHU and The Hebrew University at a festive dinner reception March 11, 2010. He received the award in recognition of his extraordinary professional achievements, his strong support for Hebrew University and the State of Israel and for his involvement in many civic and humanitarian efforts. The celebratory evening at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park drew 300 guests and raised generous support for pediatric medical research at Hebrew University. Dinner Chairs were Leo Melamed, Executive Chairman, CME Group, and Gary D. Cohn, President and COO, Goldman Sachs. Dinner Vice Chairs included Charles P. Carey, Craig Donohue, Phupinder Gill, John F. Sandner, CME Group; Charles “Corky” Goodman, Henry Crown & Company; Judd Malkin, Hackberry Endowment Partners; Sam Sallerson and Jeffrey Wolfson, SW Securities; Vinnie and Teresa Viola. Dan Schlessinger, AFHU Midwest Region president noted that Mr. Duffy's civic and humanitarian efforts "exemplify Hebrew University's mission of 'sustaining our world.' " In accepting the Scopus Award, Mr. Duffy acknowledged the challenging environment for charitable causes and congratulated those who support them.
Keynote speaker, George Will, discussed the importance of The Hebrew University in strengthening the State of Israel: “Hebrew University is the crown jewel of Israel’s intellectual life. As long as Hebrew University flourishes, Israel will flourish and therefore, the United States will flourish too.” Jim Williams, anchor and reporter at Chicago’s CBS2 News was Master of Ceremonies.
