print page The Torch of Learning Award Dinner Honoring Martyl Reinsdorf
AFHU honored Martyl Reinsdorf with its Torch of Learning Award in recognition of her humanitarian service and dedication to higher education. Known as “Grandma Martyl,” Mrs. Reinsdorf designs coloring books and creative arts packets for hospitalized children or those with low vision. The coloring books are prized by children, parents and medical professionals. Mrs. Reinsdorf and her husband, Jerry Reinsdorf graciously provided coloring books to the more than 275 attendees of the September 21, 2011 dinner at the Hilton Chicago. The event, which raised vital support for vision research at the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was chaired by Steven Edelson, Bill Marovitz and Howard Pizer. Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer provided the keynote address, focusing on prospects for peace in the Middle East.
