Western Region "Journey to Israel" Mission

Western Region Board Friends joined Co-chairs Barry Lippman, Region president, and Patricia Glaser, Region Vice Chairman on its bi-annual mission, "Journey to Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem," November 5-13, 2009. Leading faculty and alumni and HU Student Ambassadors joined HU President Prof. Menahem Ben-Sasson and Vice President for External Relations, Carmi Gillon in providing a personal glimpse of the university.  The Mt. Scopus campus was the scene for moving dedication and tribute ceremonies for Western Region Board members, Brindell Gottlieb and Marvin Jubas, who were honored at the Benefactors' Wall for their generosity, respectively, to the new Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences, and to Environmental Sciences. Region President and National Board member Barry Lippman and his wife Ronda were honored at the distinguished Trustees Wall. The unique week-long excursion included tours of key historic and cultural sights in and around Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Caesarea and the Golan Heights.  Participants gained insiders' perspective on Israeli politics and government from renowned Israeli diplomats and top leaders such as Dorit Beinisch, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, M.K. Avi Dichter,, and Former Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni. The group also had a rare opportunity to meet and dine with James Cunningham, U.S. Ambassador to Israel at his residence.
