Dental Medicine

Founded by the Alpha Omega Fraternity and formally dedicated in 1964, The Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine is Israel’s first dental school and remains the nation’s foremost center for dental education.  To date, the school has trained more than 1,500 dental professionals.

The unwavering dedication and support of Dr. D. Walter Cohen and Dr. Morton Amsterdam enabled Hebrew University to establish the D. Walter Cohen Middle East Center for Dental Education.  Since its inception in 1997 the Center has initiated joint scientific research projects, organized educational lectures and developed local programs in oral health.  Training programs have been created for dentists from the Palestinian Authority, Cyprus, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. In 1998, ten trainees from the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Turkey and Cyprus gained access to a unique six-week continuing education course. Other programs have since been offered. Through a recent pioneering partnership between The Hebrew University and Al-Quds University, graduate students from Al Quds will receive advanced specialty training at The Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Morton Amsterdam is a firm believer in this initiative as a means of building bridges to peace and co-existence between Israel and its regional neighbors. Hebrew University has established The Gateway to Dental Education Campaign in tribute to Dr. Amsterdam's tireless efforts and myriad accomplishments, and will be used to complete and enhance the entranceway to The Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine. Please click here to join with American Friends of The Hebrew University and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in our efforts to honor Dr. Amsterdam through the Gateway to Dental Education Campaign.
