Professor Itamar Gati Receives Eminent Career Award

August 3, 2010

Professor Itamar Gati of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has been awarded the Eminent Career Award for his contributions to the field of career development, it was announced recently. Professor Gati, who was formerly head of the school of education at the Hebrew University, is the first Israeli - and indeed non-American - to receive this award. Prof. Gati is an expert in career and academic guidance and is world renowned in the field of computerized consultation systems that assist people in career development.

Professor Gati has authored 102 publications and 89 international conference presentations. He is an editorial board member on five journals, head of the development team of seven computer-assisted career guidance systems, and has developed four career decision-making instruments, one of which has been adapted into 26 languages.

The prize is awarded by the National Career Development Association (NCDA) in the United States for public service by experts in career development. Nomination for the prize is based on the overall contribution of the candidate to the field of career development – including their contributions in the areas of theory, practice, leadership and scholarship. According to the NCDA, it is a "lifetime achievement award".

In 2001, Professor Gati was awarded the Kaye Prize for Innovation, and in 2006, he received the JoAnn Bowlsbey Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Technology in Career Development.
