The 2011 Israel Prize for Legal Research
Professor Ruth Gavison of the Faculty of Law is the recipent of the 2011 Israel Prize in recognition of research which deals with issues at the core of Israel’s constitutional law and Israel’s identity as a Jewish and democratic state.

The 2011 Canada Gairdner International Awards (March 2011):
Professors Chaim Cedar and Aharon Razin are the first Hebrew University faculty members to win the prestigious Canada Gairdner International Awards, presented to researchers worldwide in recognition of their outstanding contributions to medical science. 

The 2011 Gordon Maskew Fair Award:
Professor Hillel Shuval, the founder of the Environmental Sciences program at Hebrew University, is the recipient of the 2011 Gordon Maskew Fair Award, the highest award conferred by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. The award is named in honor of Harvard University’s Professor Gordon Fair, considered the “father of environmental engineering.”

The 2010 Fields Medal in Mathematics:
Professor Elon Lindenstrauss of The Einstein Institute of Mathematics is the first Israeli to be awarded the 2010 Fields Medal, considered the Nobel Prize in Mathematics.

The 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences
Peter A. Diamond, a world-leading economic theorist and an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT), is a co-recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.  Professor Diamond was awarded an honorary doctorate from Hebrew University in June 2010 and has been a guest professor at the university.

Additional Awards:
Faculty members and alumni have received 258 Israel Prizes (Israel's highest civilian honor), 12 Wolf Prizes, 18 EMET Prizes and 40 Rothschild Prizes.
